Do you really need a website? Yes! I don’t care if you are a B2B or a B2C, have a product so unique that it’s hard to articulate, you need a website. True, that some of your customers and prospects may very well find your business through other means such as walking by it on the street, or seeing an ad in the newspaper or meeting you at a trade show but you will never reach everyone that you are truly capable of reaching.
If you are only meeting prospects at trade shows and hoping they call you when they get home, you are missing out on every single person that did not attend. And you are missing out on every single person that will never call you (when was the last time you called someone you met at a trade show to learn more about their product?)
You NEED a website. Period. So go get one. It’s not that hard and the payback could be huge.

It’s on the list – I’ll do some sort of video creation sometime in 2012. Anywaaaayy… very nice to set your face, hear your voice. (FYI I just use my computer’s iSight cam, probably not the best but then it’s what I got.)
Anywaaayyy, part deux: 2) I know of ONE exception: one of my local wine/liquor stores doesn’t have one but he’s on a major intersection, busy shopping center.. and it’s booze, so he’s got the rare ‘marketing-proof’ thing going. 1) ITA, Word. Very, very few absolutes in business, and this is one of them. Very, very few companies are an exception this and I’d argue you don’t want a ‘cheap’ site either. DIY a WordPress site, certainly don’t overpay for one – but don’t skimp on something that as you say could generate huge returns for your biz. FWIW.

So there may certainly be exceptions but even that local liquor/wine store could be losing business if people are trying to find them on the web. What about distributors looking to introduce new products to the market? How will they know that store is there unless they do a drive-by? The company that actually made a comment to me that ‘we dont need a website because people will actually call’ is a large B2B company and jjust knowing that alone, this comment because so ridiculous it’s hard to imagine it was even said.
